Since 1983, Metropolitan Water District’s Education Unit has provided water education programs, supplemental materials, teacher in-services, field trips, and classroom presentations for K-12 teachers and students in Southern California. Since that time, materials and outreach programs have expanded to the Pre-K and college education levels.
Our curricula and materials teach students about California’s water supply and distribution systems, water sources, water use, water conservation, the science of water, water policies, and the importance and responsibility of stewardship. We provide a variety of water education programs to teachers and students within our six-county service area, which includes Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and parts of Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties. All Metropolitan programs correlate to various California Content Standards including Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.
On our website, you can order or download curricula; engage in games and activities; learn about field trips, class presentations, and teacher workshops; discover our unique water programs; and explore all the other resources we have to offer.
